  1. Read Me File for the 
  2. Novell Certification Assessment Diskette
  3.                                      
  4. The Novell Certification Assessment Diskette is designed to help 
  5. you evaluate your NetWare knowledge.  It will also give you practice 
  6. answering questions of a similar format to those on the actual
  7. certification exams.
  8.  
  9. Because this test covers the concepts you are required to know for 
  10. certification, the higher you score, the closer you may be to 
  11. actually becoming certified.  However, the tests do not serve 
  12. as actual certification exams, nor does performance on them 
  13. guarantee or directly correlate to the degree of success you may have 
  14. on the actual certification exams.

  16. You may take the tests one at a time, in any order, and you may 
  17. repeat each as often as you wish.  They are not scored as pass
  18. or fail.  The score enables you to evaluate the quality of your 
  19. performance and decide whether you would benefit from additional 
  20. instruction.

  22. At the end of each test, your score will appear along with 
  23. recommended study materials, called "prescriptions."  Prescriptions 
  24. for each section are not customized based upon the section score, 
  25. but display all recommended study materials for that section.  All 
  26. study materials, whether self-study, instructor-led or computer-
  27. based, are available through your local Novell Authorized Education 
  28. Center (NAEC).

  34. How to start the program
  35.  
  36. 1.   Place the diskette into a disk drive. 
  37. 2.   Transfer control to that drive (e.g., A: then <ENTER>) 
  38. 3.   At the prompt for the disk drive, type CERT then <ENTER>.

  40. If you are having problems running the program, increase the number
  41. of file handles on your system.  This can be done by increasing the 
  42. "FILES =" parameter in your config.sys file by 5.  A common number 
  43. of file handles is 20.

  46. Program Details

  48. When the program begins, you will see screens containing text on 
  49. the purpose of the program.  Press any key to proceed past these 
  50. screens.
  51.  
  52. You will then be asked to enter your first and last names and to 
  53. confirm your entries.  This creates a data file for your scores on 
  54. the tests you will subsequently take.  The program will then remember 
  55. you and the scores on the tests you have previously taken each time 
  56. you use the program.  These scores may be printed at any time.

  58. After entering your name you will be given a choice of certification
  59. programs.  Choose the program in which you are interested.  After 
  60. choosing the certification route, you will see a Test List.  The test 
  61. list is covered on one or more menus.  At these menus you should 
  62. choose a test.

  65. After you make the test choice, you will see an Options Menu.  You 
  66. may choose to take a section of topic test, see the reports on 
  67. previous tests you have taken, or return to the Test List.

  69. Choosing to take a section will produce a menu of sections within 
  70. the test of interest.  You may select any of these sections to 
  71. receive a subtest on this material.  The program will present 
  72. several questions dealing with this section.  Taking a topic test
  73. will give you 30 randomly selected questions for that topic.

  76. Taking a Test

  78. All of the questions in the tests are multiple choice.  When you 
  79. see a test question, you can choose an option by typing A, B, C, 
  80. etc., or by using the arrow keys to move the highlight bar.  You 
  81. may Skip a question if you wish; however, the question will appear 
  82. again at the end of the test.  You may also Cancel the test.  
  83. Canceling the test will take you back to the section menu without 
  84. giving you a score for the test.

  87. Test Scores and Prescriptions

  89. When you have answered the questions, the program will save your 
  90. score to your data file and display the score for you.  The score 
  91. report tells you how many questions you answered correctly out of the 
  92. number that were presented.  It  also displays the percent value of 
  93. your score.

  95. You can choose to Print your score or See Prescriptions.  If you 
  96. choose to see prescriptions a list of appropriate sections from 
  97. Novell Education Student Manuals, the Novell Product Red Manuals 
  98. and the Novell CBT products will be displayed. If you study the 
  99. material outlined in the prescriptions you will likely increase 
  100. your score on that section when you take the test again.  You may 
  101. Print these prescriptions along with your score if you wish.

  114. for any additional training, please contact your local Novell 
  115. Authorized Education Center (NAEC).  At each of our 400 NAECs you are 
  116. assured of being taught by Certified NetWare Instructors (CNIs), 
  117. using Novell-developed material in facilities approved by Novell.
